Halloween; How We Stay Balanced
This one comes a little late but I thought I would share the reality of our lives around the holidays.
Our Halloween is not free of trash but we do try to retain a balance and not have a ridiculous abundance of candy and waste in our home.
We do dress up; we make our outfits.
We do trick or treat; I am still waiting for someone to pick the trick option.
We come home and gorge on candy for a day; we are human.
Usually a day or two after all the Halloween festivities, she sits down and sorts through her loot. With the option to try one or two new pieces during the process, she prioritize her wants and fills one quart size jar with her favorites. We do this after every candy holiday or summer parade, making it so routine that she surprisingly doesn’t even question it. She knows that she can have one piece everyday from the jar until it is gone. The wierd thing is…just like Mary Poppin’s carpet bag…it never seems to empty.
This year she filled a second jar of Reese Cups, Snickers and Toosie Rolls to surprise her grandparents. The rest we are “selling back” to a local dentist office who pays $1 per pound. In other years, we have donated the extras to someone else. It seems like we never get turned down with this offer.
Our Halloween is not trash free but we try to keep ourselves balanced in our overly abundant world of trash and treats.
Cheers to a holiday of make believe.
Cheers to trying to live the change we wish to see.
Cheers to finding balance in a world of extremes.
